Pam Allyn is most passionate about the power of and value of children's stories as changemakers for the future of education and the health and safety of all humanity. She advocates for education and literacy especially as the biggest gift we can give to children that can never be taken from them once they are given. She is the Executive Director and founder of LitWorld, a global organization advocating for children's rights as readers and writers. This work has led to a focus on girls' education worldwide. She is also the Executive Director and founder of LitLife, a national organization dedicated to school improvement. She is the author of the acclaimed and award-winning What To Read When: The Books and Stories To Read With Your Child--And All The Best Times To Read Them (Penguin Avery) and The Complete Year series (Scholastic). Her books include Pam Allyn's Best Books for Boys: How To Engage Boys in Reading in Ways That Will Change Their Lives (Scholastic) and Your Child’s Writing Life: How to Inspire Confidence, Creativity, and Skill at Every Age (Penguin Avery). Her most recent book, due out this fall is Be Core Ready (Pearson) followed by the Core Ready series. The books are a bold approach to teaching towards the Common Core State Standards. Pam is both practical and inspirational in tone, and her books are chock full of both the big "why" of the CCSS and also the "how", with lesson sets and great ways to enrich literacy classrooms through the Core.Pam founded Books for Boys, a literacy initiative based at The Children's Village. It is a long running program whose ideas have been replicated around the world. She often says the boys were her first and greatest teachers in the work she does.Pam is widely known as a motivational speaker advocating for reading and writing as human rights that belong to all people. Her work has been featured on Good Morning America, The Today Show, Oprah Radio, The Huffington Post and in The New York Times.Pam is on the Advisory Boards of the Amherst College Center for Community Engagement, James Patterson’s ReadKiddoRead, Penguin Publishing’s We Give Books and the Millennium Cities Initiative Social Sector.She is the wife of the amazing Jim Allyn and two beloved and inspiring daughters.
