Deanna Hazeley

Cincinnati, OH Interior Designer

When the story books are written, Deanna (Patterson) Hazeley will be celebrated as the Cincinnati Ben-Gals Cheerleading Squad’s first African American Head Captain and Choreographer.  Over her 10 year career as a Ben-Gal, Deanna started her rookie season in the historic Cinergy field previously located on the riverfront in downtown Cincinnati in August of 1999.  Some 100 games later, Deanna embodies a lifetime of memories and accomplishments.   In addition to working her way through the ranks to become Head Captain in 2006, Deanna became a choreographer for the team in 2003, choreographer for the 2008 Ben-Gal Jr. Pro program, and was selected as the 2007 Pro Bowl Cheerleader representative in Honolulu, HI.  Deanna also was selected to appear in the team’s cheerleader calendar and has traveled to Bosnia, Kosovo, Iceland, Korea, Italy and Egypt to boost morale and entertain The United States Troops. One of Deanna’s most cherished experiences of her Ben-Gal Career is her creative collaboration and friendship with Bootsy Collins and his wife Patti.  Deanna was selected to work with Bootsy on various types of media projects including “The 40th Anniversary Bengals Rock.”  On this project she helped with vocals on two audio tracks and performed in the video that aired before game day kick-offs at Paul Brown Stadium.   Off the field, Deanna has donated countless hours to various charities and non-profit organizations.  She has also choreographed and judged competitions for inner city youth programs.  A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Deanna grew up in Kennedy Heights and developed her passion for drills and dance at an early age.  She was a member of the city-wide Stridettes Drill Team Corps and a cheerleader at Withrow High School.  She was also a member of the “Ooh Lah Lah Dance Team” at Howard University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interior Design.  Deanna has had a successful career as an Interior Designer working as a consultant on independent projects as well as for firms in Washington, DC and Cincinnati.  Deanna is currently an Interior Designer at SFA Architects, Inc.  She and her husband Damian reside in the suburban Cincinnati area with their daughter and 2 dogs.
